Light & Patience: Photographing Like a Guide Drives

Safari vehicle positioned for golden-hour photography

The best safari images are made before the shutter is pressed. Angle the vehicle so the sun does your lighting, wait until a clean background presents itself, then let the animal offer you a moment. The difference between a snapshot and a photograph is ten patient minutes.

We drive for light, not checklists. Dawn and dusk belong in the field; midday belongs to long lunches, card games and naps — or a second vehicle that stays out for those who would rather keep looking. Tell your designer how you like to shoot, and the schedule is composed around your lens, not a timetable.

Ethics first, always: no baiting, no chasing, no crowding. A photograph earned respectfully is the only kind worth bringing home.
