The Great Migration, Tanzania

The Great Migration

Two million animals. One moving target.

Every year, wildebeest, zebra and gazelle trace a vast circuit across the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem in search of rain-fed grass.

The migration cannot be booked — it can only be followed. That is what we do: camps positioned for the season you travel, routes adjusted weekly, and a guide who treats the herds' location as the first fact of every morning.

Highlights

  1. Calving on short-grass plains

Around January–March the southern plains fill with newborns — predator drama at its most raw.

  2. River crossings

From roughly July to October, columns surge at the Mara River; patience and positioning decide the moment.

  3. A season of your own

There is no single best month — only the right region for your dates, which is precisely what we solve.

When to go

December–April favours the southern calving grounds; July–October favours northern river crossings. Shoulder months offer superb game with quieter roads.

Questions travellers ask

When exactly should I book?

Decide the experience you want first — births or crossings — then lock dates 9–12 months ahead for the camps inside those windows.

Is the river crossing guaranteed?

No operator can guarantee a crossing. We place you where probabilities are highest and let the wilderness decide.

Does it work for children?

Older children tend to be captivated; for younger families we usually blend migration nights with gentler parks.
